Below are the three main texts and text “families” that are commonly used by students and teachers of NT Greek. Although each “family” of texts has their own unique philosophy and transmission history, it is important to know that regardless of the text you use they will all be within 94-95% identical.

CRITICAL TEXT PORTAL
The critical text is a text that has been composed using of the earliest available fragments and manuscripts of the NT that have ever been found, however these are numerically the minority. Critical texts are compiled using a complex theory known as reasoned eclecticism.
BYZANTINE TEXT PORTAL
The Byzantine text is a family of texts that utilize the manuscripts from the Byzantine empire (Asia minor) and represent the vast majority of all surviving Greek manuscripts of the New Testament, however they are substantially later in age then those of the critical text.
TEXTUS RECEPTUS PORTAL
The Textus Receptus is a family of editions that began with the publication of the first ever printed and published Greek New Testament made by Desiderius Erasmus in the early 16th century. They are primarily related in family to the Byzantine text, however they do include several reading from the “Western text” (i.e. old Latin versions)
